Making a Difference:
NPH/USA Transforms the Lives of Guatemalan Brothers & Sisters!
Dear Parishioners,
Nuestros Pequeños Hermanos (NPH) supports over 9,000 vulnerable children and adults annually in nine countries in Latin America and the Caribbean.
In Guatemala, 55% of the population lives in poverty with over 68% of the country’s child population living in poverty. This number jumps even higher for the country’s indigenous population, with 80% of indigenous group members living in poverty.
In 2022 in the city of Chimaltenango, NPH opened the Father William Wasson Family Center to better support the indigenous children and families, many of single parents, living in the community. Last year, the NPH Family Center supported over 150 families through 5 core services: daycare for children 2 to 4, tutoring services for local students, rehabilitation for children with disabilities and career empowerment and training for women and single parents, and technical/ vocational training for single parents.
The goal of the family center is to empower families in a very poor area of Guatemala and to support systemic and generational change. The three-floor building boasts color and education in a variety of necessary rooms to support the programs. As one of the only free services in the area, the waitlist for services is extensive.
We could not do this important work without the support of people like you!
If you are ever in Guatemala, I hope you will visit both our home and the Family Center. Learn more! Become a Sponsor: NPH USA, Guatemala!

What is NPH?
Nuestros Pequeños Hermanos (NPH) means “Our Little Brothers and Sisters” in Spanish. Founded in 1954 by Father William Wasson, NPH has transformed the lives of tens of thousands of the most vulnerable children and young adults, providing a nurturing family environment, education, health care, and vocational and life skills training. NPH USA helps children in Bolivia, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, and Peru achieve their full potential, becoming productive, caring leaders in their communities and breaking the cycle of intergenerational poverty.
NPH also fills a vital, lifesaving role with its operation of St. Damien Pediatric Hospital, the only hospital wholly dedicated to pediatric and high-risk maternity care in Haiti, and the only Haitian hospital equipped to provide pediatric oncology care.
We support NPH through fundraising and volunteer programs. In addition to our national office, we have three fundraising areas (South and West, Midwest, East Coast) and the St. Damien Pediatric Hospital Fund each working in tandem to build support for our mission.
St. Julia Parish’s Partnership with NPH/USA
The partnership between NPH and St. Julia established years ago provides opportunities to offer tangible ways to help break the cycle of poverty for thousands of children. The impact of this connection between the parish and NPH USA will be felt for generations.
As a Church Partner, the parish commits to promoting NPH USA’s mission and finding Godparents for children in need. If you wish to become a Sponsor, please view the updated Sponsorship Wall located by the stairs in the Parish Center Hall, to select a child in need!
Through this partnership, our parish will have an opportunity to put our faith in action. All members of our parish can be involved by responding to the call to care for our brothers and sisters in need, and to put our social justice mission into action.
