Our Charter: To create an atmosphere of hospitality and caring to our parishioners at Mass and to handle a variety of essential tasks that take place during the Mass.
Duties of Ministry of Usher
Before Mass
Make sure that the doors of the Church are open and lights are turned on and that the temperature in the Church is comfortable.
Check pews to ensure that they are neat and hymnals are in place.
During Mass
Meet, greet and welcome people as they enter the Church for Mass and hand out the Worship aid. Welcome and assist late comers to find seating.
Assist elderly and disabled to be seated.
Take up the collection or collections if more than one.
Place the collection basket in front of altar after collection is complete.
Record the number of attendees at Mass.
Assign gift bearers if none are already assigned.
Distribute the bulletins at the end of Mass.
Place collection in pre-labeled bags, secure them and leave them in sacristy.
After Mass
Ensure that the pews are clean and hymnals back in place.
Our Members: We have six active ushers for St. Julia church; two regular ushers are at St. Joseph with substitutes available when needed .
Our needs: We need 2 ushers for every Mass at both churches. More ushers are needed in both churches! Contact Andrea or Fr. Evans to get started.
