Lectors proclaim the Word of God during the Liturgy of the Word at Mass. They are also responsible to represent the community’s interests in proclaiming the general intercessions (also known as Prayers of the Faithful).
Training and support are provided (this includes how to pronounce some of those tricky words in the Old Testament!).
You do not need to be a public speaker to do this. All you need is to be willing to stand on the altar and share the scripture of our faith that Jesus also read to the people of His time.
