During the Marian Month of May, we will honor Our Holy Mother through the daily praying of the rosary. Join fellow parishioners every morning at 8:30 am virtually by clicking the Zoom link here.
Also, our St. Julia rosary group is accepting names for a special novena to St. Peregrine, for all who are affected by cancer. If anyone wishes to have a name added for this novena, please email Colm McGarry.
These 30 shrines will lead the Rosary Relay for end of the pandemic
Pope Francis will lead the first and the last of the Rosaries during this Marian month marathon.
The “prayer marathon” that Pope Francis will kick off on May 1 will stretch around the globe during the Marian month of May.
The intention for the daily Rosary, to be led by a different shrine each day, is the end of the pandemic. Specific intentions related to the pandemic will also be included. The Rosary will be broadcast each evening at 6 pm Rome time (12 EST).
Here is the Guide released by the Vatican.
On May 1 at 6 p.m., Pope Francis will kick off this special month in St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome. He will pray with his eyes turned to the Madonna of Succour (Our Lady of Help), a famous representation of the Virgin venerated from the 7th century, found in the Gregorian chapel, above the altar of Saint Leo. This Virgin and Child was restored in 2013 under the pontificate of Pope Francis. It is considered the preeminent Marian icon of St. Peter’s. The Argentine pontiff has placed himself under her protection.
The pontiff will bless rosaries which will be sent to the 30 shrines that will take turn leading the Rosary. Some families from the parishes of Rome as well as young representatives of different movements of the new evangelization will participate in the launch of this Marian month.
The concluding Rosary, scheduled for May 31, is expected to be delivered from the Vatican Gardens. Last year, already in the midst of the pandemic, the Pope closed the month of Marian prayer in front of the representation of the grotto of Lourdes. He was on that occasion connected via video link to shrines around the world.
Throughout the month of May, the thirty shrines will conduct the rosary in their language and according to their own tradition, explains the Pontifical Council for Evangelization.
