Add your Voice to Our Next Social Justice Commission Meeting:
Tuesday, Feb. 18 at 7pm in St. Joseph’s Church Rectory, Lincoln
Pope Francis said in Evangelii Gaudium, “realities are more important than ideas” (2013). Catholic Social Justice is informed by the prophetic challenge offered by the experience of those suffering from injustice: women, communities of color, the economically exploited, and all whose dignity is denied by unjust systems and structures.
The St. Julia Parish Social Justice Commission meets on a Tuesday evening of each month alternating between Lincoln and Weston. At our meeting we may discuss the following:
• The success of this year’s annual winter Clothing & Coat Drive for St. Francis House
• Efforts to continue to reduce energy waste, especially at St Joseph’s in Lincoln where the process of replacing older inefficient windows and fixtures continues. Successful social justice efforts often requires working with interfaith groups. In the past St. Julia partnered with other churches to renovate homes in low income areas of Boston – https://www.rebuildingtogetherboston.org/
• This work can continue with Massachusetts Coalition to Prevent Gun Violence: macopgv@gmail.com
• The importance of the recent Papal statement against the use of the death penalty and the role of groups like Catholic Mobilizing Network as they seek to prevent the reinstatement of federal executions. https://catholicsmobilizing.org/
There is more work to be done and we need help prioritizing parish concerns. Please consider how you can contribute to our efforts and add your voice! Our next meeting takes place:
When: 7pm on Tues., February 18, 2020
Where: St. Joseph’s Rectory, at the rear of St. Joseph’s Church in Lincoln
