Volunteers needed

We are stewards of the gifts God has given us, and sharing them generously in ways small and large gives us the opportunity to use them for His work. Many parishioners contribute a range of skills and time commitments to make our parish flourish, enhancing our lives and connections with each other in the process. Please consider helping in some capacity for one of the needs expressed below, or any of the other activities described throughout our site.

Pastoral Care

Bereavement Support. Do you like doing online research? Help us learn what programs are available in the area of bereavement support? Call or email Susan Bayard, 781- 642-1308, if you would like to be a part of the important early phase of a new initiative in our parish.

Hospitality

Help with Parish Coffees. Monthly coffees are held after Masses at each church. Volunteers are needed to help set up, serve, and clean up after these events. These gatherings are a wonderful source of community and connection, and the work of the volunteers is greatly appreciated. At St. Julia Church, the coffees are usually held on the second Sunday of the month in the Parish Center after the 9:00 AM Mass. At St. Joseph Church, the coffees usually are held on the second or third Sunday in St. Joseph House after both Sunday Masses. Please contact Debbie Eappen if you can help in any way at St. Julia Church, or Marige Bursaw if you can help at St. Joseph Church.

Cooking and Baking

Meals at Bristol Lodge Soup Kitchen. Three times each month, meals are provided to the shelter by members of the parish. Volunteers are needed to cook a portion of the meal (salad, fruit, casserole or dessert prepared in your own home), or transport and serve the meal at the shelter. Typically cooks are called once every third or fourth month to help. If you are able to donate your time and/or talent for this activity, please contact Jackie Athas in Weston, or Kathy Lane in Lincoln.

Sandwich Sundays. On the second Sunday of the month, St. Julia Parish contributes several hundred sandwiches to Sandra's Lodge in Waltham. These sandwiches are distributed to homeless mothers and children who otherwise would not have a noon meal on Mondays. Contact Peg Golden for details on how to help with this important service project.

Food, Clothing and Household Goods Donations

Each month there is both a food and clothing delivery made to Catholic Charities in Lowell, coordinated by Kathy Lane. Donations can be left in either of the churches for delivery by volunteers to Lowell. Please watch the bulletin for announcements about collection and delivery dates.

St. Julia Thrift Shop needs and welcomes your donations of new and current clothing to seasonally update the clothing selections we offer. Costume jewelry, small household items, china glassware, small kitchen utensils and equipment, and boutique items are always "treasured". In addition to items to donate, we have a great need for a few new volunteers. Please call Pat Sennott (781-899-2229) if you have any questions, or just stop by during regular hours.

Horticultural Talents

Seasonal Flower Arrangements for Christmas and Easter. Do you have an interest in flower arranging? St. Julia and St. Joseph Churches could use your time and talent to decorate the altars during these special times of our liturgical year. At St. Julia Church contact Susan Tamoney, and at St. Joseph Church contact Sylvia Kennedy.

Landscaping. During the spring and summer seasons, St. Julia and St. Joseph Churches occassionally need volunteers to assist with gardening, perhaps planting flowers for First Communion or helping to mulch the beds and shrubs. We welcome any and all help in this effort to beautify our churches' surroundings. Please contact Janice Carroll Hammond if you would like to join us.

Driving

Rides needed. We are in need of drivers to bring parishioners to Mass who would not otherwise be able to attend. Contact Father Evans for more information or to volunteer.

Caregiving

Campion Health Center. Campion Center, a health care and residence for Jesuits of New England, is currently adding to its volunteer base. Volunteers would assist the Activity Department with transportation of residents in wheelchairs, involvement with group programs, one on one visits with reading, letter writing, etc. Hours can be arranged to fit your schedule. Questions: contact Gail Murphy at 781-788-4788 or Meghan Farrell-Talmo at 781-788-4754.

Administrative Help

General Clerical Help. If you have some time to share during regular office hours, we could use help with various clerical tasks from time to time, such as parish mailings. Please contact the Parish office.

Church Locking Committee for St. Julia Church.
We are in need of two volunteers to stop by to close the church on a weekday evening. This valuable service permits us to keep the church open in the late afternoon/early evenings. Please call the parish office.
