Fifth Sunday of Lent
March 28/29, 2009
Dear Parishioners,
The Generations of Faith weekend has come. I am happy to have the celebration of "Hearts and Hands," a consideration of the social teaching of our Church and of ways that we might live what we believe. Thanks to all who have prepared and who will take part.
From time to time, people ask us about Catholic education for their children. Don't hesitate to be in touch with me or Fr. Hennessey or our staff, should you want some help in researching or locating Catholic schools for children of elementary or highschool age, as well as for college-age students.
Please plan now to attend the Holy Week services during the Triduum (Three Days): the Mass of the Lord's Supper on Holy Thursday, the Service of the Lord's Passion on Good Friday, and the Easter Vigil on Holy Saturday. It would be wonderful to see more families coming to at least some of the events of those upcoming days. Note that the Stations of the Cross, while a good devotion and a valuable addition to the main ceremonies, should not be considered nearly as crucial as the chief Good Friday service, celebrated in our parish on Friday night.
The families with children preparing for First Eucharist this spring will be coming together on next Saturday for a workshop, with a pot-luck lunch included. It is so important that all families come to these preparatory events. They supply a communal experience of learning and celebrating that is so much more than just an information-gathering or activity-doing moment. In a world that so much needs the message and community of Christ, this kind of happening is very valuable.

LENTEN QUESTION OF THE WEEK
"Whoever serves me must follow me, and where I am, there also will my servant be." John 12:26
Adult: Think of people you know who serve others in various ways. How can their actions influence your own journey as a follower of Jesus?
Child: What people do you know who help others? Who can you help this week?
PALM SUNDAY PROCESSION
Next Sunday is Palm Sunday (April 5th), and, weather permitting, in both Lincoln and Weston, we will be meeting outside each of the churches to begin the 10:30AM and 11:15AM Masses. The palm branches will be blessed and we will process into the church with our palms, praising Jesus in song as did the crowds who welcomed him to Jerusalem. Please be sure to come early so you may participate fully in this commemoration of the Lord's entrance into Jerusalem.
FIRST SATURDAYS DEVOTION: On the first Saturday of each month, in honor of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, join Carol Wells, and those who regularly pray the rosary on Saturdays, to recite the Rosary after the 8AM Mass.
WHAT DO WE DO WITH "FOUND" MONEY?? GIVE IT TO PROJECT RICE BOWL! As we continue our journey, let us remember in prayer that all humanity has been made in the image of God. Through our actions we must express that each person is precious and that the lives and welfare of all people are priorities. May our fasting keep us mindful of the hunger of the people of the world. May our almsgiving assist CRS, as we learn about programs that care for orphans and venerable children in Tanzania. Visit the website for more information: http://orb/interactive/index.cfm.

THE THRIFT SHOP IS READY FOR SPRING!!
It is time to restock the Thrift Shop with spring and summer clothing for our customers. Your donations are welcome and appreciated, especially in these difficult economic times. Saleable clothing must be clean, in season and in style. "Gently" used shoes and sneakers are always in need. Children's clothing and toys must be assured to be "lead-free". "Boutique items" such as costume jewelry, silver, glassware, fine china, along with small kitchen utensils are always a great buy for our shoppers. If you have a prom dress to donate, we will have it cleaned "free of charge" by Anton's Cleaners. Check your closet.
The best way to see what is needed is by visiting the Thrift Shop. You'll be surprised at the hidden treasures for sale. Thank You for your donations and support.
THE 2009 CATHOLIC APPEAL
RESPONDING TO GOD'S GRACE, RENEWING OUR CHURCH
Our goal for St. Julia Parish this year will be $204,000. The Appeal benefits the charities and crucial operations of the Archdiocese.
To date, we have received $116,589 pledged dollars from 30 households, reaching 57.2 of our parish goal. Please know that every gift matters. Also, our parish will receive 25% of all funds we raise above our goal.
If you have not been a regular donor to this drive, or if you have not given for a while, could you think about taking part this year? Doing so will strengthen the faith-life of our church in Boston, with its good effects felt here in Weston and Lincoln -- as in every parish.
