December 17: Grade 2 Hosts Family Mass and Café Julia
Did you know…
…that according to the Gospel of Luke, John the Baptist is a relative of Jesus?
This Sunday, December 10, it is the second Sunday of Advent. We light two purple candles on the Advent Wreath. We hear the very beginning of the Gospel of Mark, when we are introduced to John the Baptist.
According to the Gospel of Luke, John the Baptist is a dis-tant cousin of Jesus. The Gospel tells us that John was born about six months before Jesus. We celebrate John’s birthday on June 24th.
Here is a picture of the traditional site of John’s birth place. It is located in an area near Jerusalem, called Ein Karem. It is the same place where Mary visited her cousin Elizabeth.
John baptized people in the Jordan River. It is a very long river, and in some places it is wide and slow, and in some places it is narrow and fast. We don’t know exactly where he baptized people—he may have gone to different parts of the river.
Here is one place where people can re-new their own Baptismal vows, on the Jordan River. Now you know more about John the Baptist!
Parents—be sure that you have put all of your child’s grade level events on your 2018 calendar! The children and at least on parent are expected to participate in the Café Julia and Family Gathering moments! Children pre-paring to receive the Sacraments MUST attend the work-shops!
