It’s that time of year, again, when we are getting ready for all types of September start–ups. Schools will soon be back in session. Parish programs and activities are preparing to re–launch and volunteers are being sought to help. With so many claims to your time and energy, offering service to the Church can readily be put on the “back burner”. Sometimes, too, the notion that “someone else will step forward” allows us to dismiss any sense of our own call to serve.
Our calling to Christian service, though, is not an “add on” to faith. It is an integral part of living our life in the Lord. Jesus often reminded his disciples of their responsibility to serve one another. In a stunning scene, Saint John the Evangelist tells us that Jesus washed the feet of His disciples at the Last Supper. He, who is Lord and Master, undertook the most humble of servant tasks and commanded His disciples to do the same.
I ask you to consider the Lord’s call to serve in the various ministries, programs and activities of our Parish. We are blessed with many who have already answered the call. I am so thankful to those who assist with Faith formation programs, small group evangelization, liturgical ministries, choirs, hospitality, Saint Vincent de Paul Society and the food pantry, nursing home/ homebound visitation, Sodality, social events, leadership councils, etc. Our Parish, though, continues to have need of youth and adults willing to step forward and serve in these and other activities. With your help, we can do even more to reach out to others and share the love of Christ!
Jesus has assures us that whatever we do for the least of our brothers and sisters we do for Him. May we be inspired to serve one another in His Holy Name. Please call me or any Parish Staff member to find out more about how you can help.
